Grade 9 & 10 Course Outline

Bible I: Part I: In the Beginning God 5 units, 1 semester

The course begins with a study of the historical development of the Bible and its reliability. Lessons then cover God’s gifts of the Sabbath and Salvation and the experiences and relationships within selected families in the Old Testament and the application of Biblical principles to one’s family today
 

Bible I: Part II: God’s Gift – Our Choice 5 units, 1 semester

This course covers the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as recorded in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
 

Bible II: Part I: His Story – Just In Time 5 units, 1 semester

This course covers the history of God’s people from the Exodus through the period between the Old and New Testaments. It also addresses the development of the New Testament Church.
 

Bible II: Part II: His Story – In Our Time 5 units, 1 semester

This course covers the history of the Church from A.D. 70 through the Millerite movement in the early 1800’s, including the development of the Seventh-day Adventist Church up to the present time.
 

English I 10 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes a review of the basics of English grammar, the mechanics of writing, speech, and reading literature for enjoyment, development of reading skills, understanding relationships between humans, and understanding relationships with God.
 

English II 10 units, 2 semesters

This course builds on the themes presented in English I. Emphasized are reading comprehension, writing, conversation, speech, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and developing a taste for good literature.

 

Algebra I 10 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes algebraic expressions, real numbers, solving equations, polynomials, graphing linear equations and functions, systems of linear equations, multiplying and factoring polynomials, algebraic fractions and applications, inequalities and graphing, rational and irrational numbers, and quadratics.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of 8th grade math or pre-algebra. Calculator required.


Geometry 10 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes logical proofs and characteristics of geometric figures including points, lines, planes, angles, congruency, parallel lines, similarity, quadrilaterals, triangles, right triangles, circles, constructions, inequalities, areas, and volumes.
Prerequisite: Algebra I. Calculator required.
 

Biology 10 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes the many areas of life science including cellular biology, general biological principals, genetics, human biology, zoology, ecology, and botany. Laboratory course.
 

Physical Science 10 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes the general areas of physics and chemistry including atomic structure, the Periodic Table, formulas, bonding, solutions, acids, bases, carbon chemistry, electricity, magnetism, wave motion, light, heat energy, motion, work, power, simple machines, and problem solving. Laboratory course.
 

World History 10 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes knowledge and understanding of the world’s people by learning about their history, geography, beliefs, values, and traditions. It is designed to help students be better citizens of the world.
 

Keyboarding 5 units, 1 semester

This course emphasizes the development of computer keyboard skills including speed, accuracy, preparation of personal and business papers, computer terminology, and proper keyboarding techniques.
 

Computing 5 units, 1 semester

This course is an introduction to computers emphasizing the use of the computer including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, databases, windows, and a variety of other software. It also includes the set-up and operation of typical hardware.
 

Health 5 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes total health in all areas of life. It includes proper diet, nutrition, fitness, substance abuse, first aid, CPR, the body and its relation with the environment as well as the Christian holistic philosophy of health.
 

Recreational PE 5 units, 2 semesters

This course emphasizes fitness for life through various sports and fitness training. At times it includes skiing/snowboarding, swimming, and windsurfing. It is designed to acquaint the student with the basic rules of various games/sports, their own fitness and skill levels, a Christian approach to athletics, sportsmanship, self-control, and self motivation.
 

Construction 5 units, 1 Semester

This course will cover everything involved in building your own home. It begins with finding the right spot to build and drawing up plans. This class covers the following: footings, floors, framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, sheetrock, finish carpentry, bathrooms, kitchens, heating, air conditioning. . . etc.
 

Life Skills 5 units, 1 semester

This course is an introduction to basic hands-on skills that students may need or appreciate in their future. It includes topics such as car maintenance, mechanical drawing, woodworking, painting, small engines repair, welding, budgeting, basic banking, taxes, making wise purchases (houses, cars, etc.), life-long recreation, travel planning, etc.
